D.H. Clark

Organist & Musician in Residence

D.H. is a founding member of Northminster and began serving as the church as Director of Music in 1997. D. H. Clark began his church music “career” at age 15 as the music director at his home church, New Ouachita Baptist Church, in Enterprise, Louisiana. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1964 and Northeast La. State College (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe) in 1967. During those years he directed the music program at his church and participated in associational activities in various Baptist churches in the area. There was a hiatus in his musical career during the demanding years at Tulane University School of Medicine and residency at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. During his military service he was able to resume this aspect of his life and served as organist at the base chapel at Scott Air Force Base in St. Louis.

He has served as organist and/or director of music at Parkview Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church ,and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Monroe. In 1981, D. H. founded the Masterworks Chorus, Monroe’s community chorus, and was its music director for twelve years. He is a founding member of Northminster Church and is an active member of the Alliance of Baptists, the American Guild of Organists (dean of the Ouachita Valley chapter) and the American Choral Directors Association.

In his other career D. H. has been a physician with the Woman’s Clinic of Monroe - West Monroe since 1977. He is a board certified obstetrician/gynecologist and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology. D. H. has enriched the services at Northminster with many original compositions and arrangements. He has had as inspiration the association of the incredible Sand Lawn and Marj Stricklin as accompanists who can perform anything anyone can write, and a choir which willingly and ably performs almost any level of music including that written earlier that day as a work in progress.
